Troubleshooting
Why Can’t I Repost on TikTok? 8 Reasons and Fixes
Quick answer
If you can’t repost on TikTok, it’s usually for one of three reasons: you already reposted that video (the menu shows Remove repost instead), the video may not offer Repost (commonly reported for friends-only videos and ads), or your app needs an update or restart. Check another video first. If Repost is missing everywhere, update TikTok, restart it, and clear its cache.
First, check whether it’s one video or every video
Open two or three other videos from your For You feed and look in their Share menus. Don’t tap Repost just to test it; looking is enough.
- Missing on one video: the cause is that video (reasons 1–4 below).
- Missing on every video: the cause is your app, connection, or account (reasons 5–8).
Reasons you can’t repost one particular video
1. You’ve already reposted it
When a video is already in your Reposts tab, the Share menu shows Delete repost or Remove repost instead of Repost. Leave it as is, or remove the repost if you meant to undo it.
2. It’s your own video
TikTok’s Help Center doesn’t say whether you can repost your own video, but users commonly report that the option doesn’t appear on their own uploads. To give your own video another push, pin it to your profile or share it directly.
3. The video’s privacy settings limit sharing
Videos from private accounts are only visible to approved followers, and videos a creator has limited to friends are commonly reported to lack the Repost option. There’s nothing to fix on your side; you can still like or favorite the video.
4. It’s an ad or a special type of post
Users commonly report that sponsored posts and some other content types don’t offer Repost. Look for an “Ad” or “Sponsored” label on the video.
Reasons you can’t repost anything
5. Your TikTok app is out of date
TikTok’s Help Center tells people with sharing problems to make sure they’re running the latest version. Open the App Store, search for TikTok, and tap Update if it’s offered.
6. A connection or cache problem
TikTok’s official steps for sharing problems are to switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, clear the app’s cache, and restart the app. To clear the cache, go to Profile → menu → Settings and privacy → Free up space and tap Clear next to Cache. Then close TikTok completely and reopen it.
7. Your account may be restricted
Users commonly report losing features temporarily after a community guidelines warning. If TikTok has sent you a notice about your account, follow its instructions rather than repeatedly trying to repost.
8. A TikTok bug or outage
Users have reported the Repost button disappearing after app updates and during bugs. If it disappears after an update and nothing above helps, wait a day and check again.
Still stuck? Report it to TikTok
Go to Profile → menu → Settings and privacy → Report a problem and follow the prompts. Include:
- Your iPhone model, iOS version, and TikTok app version.
- Whether Repost is missing, greyed out, or showing an error.
- Whether it affects one video or every video.
- What you’ve already tried, and a screenshot of the menu or error message.
Never include your password or a verification code in a report.
Once Repost works again
Open your Reposts tab and check whether any of your test taps went through. Remove any you didn’t mean to keep. If old reposts have piled up, here’s how to delete all reposts on TikTok at once.
Frequently asked questions
Why did the Repost button disappear on TikTok?
If it’s gone on every video, your app is most likely outdated or glitching. Update TikTok, clear its cache, and restart it. If it’s missing on one video, that video probably can’t be reposted or you’ve already reposted it.
Why does TikTok show “Remove repost” instead of “Repost”?
Because you’ve already reposted that video from this account. Tapping Remove repost would undo it.
Can you repost your own TikTok?
TikTok’s Help Center doesn’t say, but users commonly report that Repost isn’t offered on their own uploads. Pin your video or share it directly instead.
Can I repost on TikTok from a computer?
TikTok’s Help Center documents reposting in the mobile app. The tiktok.com website also shows a Repost option in a video’s Share menu.
How do I clear TikTok’s cache?
Go to Profile, open the menu, tap Settings and privacy, then Free up space, and tap Clear next to Cache. Clearing the cache doesn’t delete your posted videos or your account.
