How to Hide Reposts on TikTok or Make Them Private

Published Updated 5 min read

Quick answer

TikTok doesn’t offer an official setting to hide your Reposts tab or make reposts visible only to you. You have two real options: remove the reposts (one at a time in TikTok, or in bulk with an app like RepostWipe), or make your account private so only approved followers can see them. A private account still shows reposts to your followers, so removing a repost is the only way to hide it from everyone.

Hide reposts for good by removing them in bulk with RepostWipe for iPhone.

Can you hide reposts on TikTok?

Not with a dedicated switch. TikTok’s Help Center sets out who can see your reposts, and the main thing that changes it is whether your account is public or private:

  • Public account: your reposts, any repost text, and replies to them are visible to others on your profile.
  • Private account: only your followers can see your reposts, on your profile and in their For You feeds.

You’ll find videos claiming there’s a hidden “Reposts” privacy toggle. TikTok’s Help Center doesn’t document one, and its account privacy pages don’t mention one either. If a newer version of the app adds a setting, use it, but don’t count on it being there.

Option 1: Remove the reposts you want hidden

Removing a repost hides it from everyone, including followers, and keeps your account public. For a single video, open it, tap Share, then Delete repost (or Remove repost). Our guide to removing a repost on TikTok covers every route.

TikTok removes reposts one at a time, which is slow if you have a large backlog. To clear them in bulk, see how to delete all reposts on TikTok at once.

Option 2: Make your TikTok account private

  1. Tap Profile, then the menu icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy, then Privacy.
  3. Turn on Private account.

From then on, only people you approve can see your profile, videos, and reposts. Two things to know before switching:

  • Existing followers still see everything. Review your follower list and remove anyone you don’t want seeing your reposts.
  • It limits your reach. Private accounts can’t grow an audience the way public ones do, which is a real cost for creators and businesses.

If you want to stay public but stop showing old reposts, removing them (Option 1) is the better fit.

Option 3: Hide your reposts from specific people

On a private account, remove a person from your followers and they lose access to your reposts. Blocking someone stops them from viewing your profile in the TikTok app. On a public account, though, anyone can still open your profile on tiktok.com without logging in, so removing the reposts is the only way to keep them from a specific person for sure.

How to turn off reposts on TikTok

TikTok has no single switch that turns reposts off. What to do depends on what you mean:

Hide the reposts you’ve made

Remove them, or make your account private. See Options 1–3 above.

Stop seeing other people’s reposts in your feed

There’s no dedicated setting. The closest control is to press and hold a reposted video you don’t want and tap Not interested, which tells TikTok to show you less content like it. That only changes your feed, not your profile.

Stop other people reposting your videos

TikTok’s Help Center doesn’t describe a setting that blocks reposts of your public videos. Making your account private limits your videos to followers you approve.

Stop reposting by accident

You can’t switch off the Repost button or the press-and-hold menu. Be deliberate with long presses while scrolling, since TikTok reposts immediately without asking you to confirm, and check your Reposts tab now and then for strays.

Settings that don’t hide your reposts

  • Making liked videos private only affects your Liked tab. Reposts have their own tab with different rules.
  • Marking videos “Not interested” changes your feed, not your profile.
  • Logging out or deleting the app leaves your reposts on your profile for others to see.

Also remember that hiding or removing a repost can’t undo views that already happened. Someone may have seen it in their feed before you acted.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make reposts private on TikTok?

Not individually. TikTok’s Help Center documents no “only me” setting for reposts. Making your whole account private limits reposts to your followers, and removing a repost hides it from everyone.

How do I turn off reposts on TikTok?

TikTok doesn’t let you switch off the Repost feature. You can remove reposts you’ve made, avoid accidental press-and-hold reposts, and use “Not interested” to see fewer reposts in your feed.

Can people see my reposts if my account is private?

Yes, your followers can. TikTok says a private account’s reposts are visible to followers on your profile and in their For You feeds. People who don’t follow you can’t see them.

Does hiding my liked videos hide my reposts?

No. The liked-videos privacy setting only covers your Liked tab. Reposts follow your account’s public or private setting.

How do I hide all my reposts at once?

Remove them. TikTok only removes reposts one by one, but on iPhone RepostWipe can scan your profile and remove the reposts you select in paced batches.
